Koh Samui’s Best Restaurants, Discover the Best of Koh Samui

Koh Samui is a revered tourist destination for more than its pristine beaches; it is also a gourmet’s Paradise, with everything from traditional Thai dishes to trendy creative cuisine delights set to tantalise the taste buds. The island is home to many talented Chefs, who have shone in competitions world-round and who head the kitchens at elegant Michelin-starred establishments.

We have selected our pick of Koh Samui’s Top 5 Restaurants all of which offer amazing dining experiences.

The Barracuda Restaurant, situated in the north of the island, in Maenam, offers a high quality fusion of Mediterranean and Thai cuisine, with a frequently changing menu that takes advantage of the finest ingredients from the local markets. The cosy 20-seat restaurant elegantly recaptures in its small details the art of Thai fishing, and there is an outside lounge where you can relax and enjoy the sophisticated ambience while sampling the varied cocktail menu. The Treetops Restaurant

Tree Tops, in North Chaweng, is one of Koh Samui’s most exclusive restaurants, having only 8 tables, each of which is set in its own little sheltered tree house raised up on pillars under the jungle canopy. The dining spaces are linked by wooden walkways. Because of its small size and popularity, it’s best to make a reservation. The high class menu offers a choice of red meat dishes, seafood and Thai cuisine, and there is a choice of set menus with well chosen wine pairings. Guests are given a complimentaryy drink, and the staff will carefully explain each dish and help with your wine choice. Tel: +66 77 960 333

Café 69, in the north coast town of Bophut, is a colourful, modern restaurant that offers its own delicious twist on Southern Thai cuisine. This is a lively, busy restaurant, but the host and chef, Vivien Bella, always finds time to speak to his guests, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. You can taste his excellent versions of standard Thai dishes such as duck dumplings or white snapper and mangoes, although his creative talents fully come to fruition in a series of outstanding original dishes such as Pad Thai with the chef’s own tamarind sauce, or the delicious curried smoked duck with grapes and lychees. The Boudoir

The Boudoir, as its name suggests, oozes French style and romance while serving the best of French rustic cuisine. It is run by a friendly French couple who are passionate about the best of French ingredients, particularly from their native Provence. Fine French cheeses, slow-roasted meat dishes that fall off the bone, frogs legs, foiegras and fine patisserie–all these and more are served up in their inimitable style. Hidden away in the jungle at Mae Nam, Stephan and Isabelle have built a home from home that has become one of the most sought after restaurants on the island. Tel:+6608 578310 31

The unique Vikasa Life Café, in Bontji Moo on Koh Samui’s west coast, is a highlight of any visit to the Vikasa Yoga Retreat. Offering a menu that combines healthy ingredients with a style that is all about luxury and indulgence, this is the perfect answer to anyone looking for healthy food as part of their yoga lifestyle that is also a sensual culinary experience. Enjoy a variety of colourful and creative dishes to suit any dietary needs, including vegan, raw, western, international, non-vegetarian and fusion, in an inspiring setting overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.
